The last entry of the Pokemon series surpassed the 1.23 million units of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the best-selling opening week for a Switch title in Japan. Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield sold 1,364,544 retail units during its first three days in Japan, according to Famitsu figures. This number includes physical game copies, download cards and the Pokemon Sword and Shield double pack, but does not include digital sales.
The switch, which includes both standard and Lite models, was sold at 180,136 units between November 11 and 17, about the same number of hardware sales as when Pokemon: Let'Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let's go, Eevee! launched, but nearly 100,000 units less than the increase in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
